Resurrection Power

The Garden Tomb

Good evening and a happy Resurrection Day! Jesus is alive!

Below is the recording from our services this morning, where Matt spoke to us drawing parallels from Jonah’s experience with the Resurrection. Before that, here are two videos celebrating the amazing truth of the Resurrection. Firstly, the wonderful ‘Jesus is Alive’ from Adrian Snell’s The Passion. This is a wonderfully expressive piece, with Mary Magdalene’s “Brothers, I have seen the Lord” and Mary, the mother of Jesus, “Son of the world – my heart begins to understand”, and culminating in the choir declaring “Jesus is alive! Halleluyah!” Wonderful! The second video great too, but in a very different style, Matt Maher’s anthemic ‘Christ is Risen’.

May we all know the power of the Resurrection in our own lives! Amen!

Here is Matt’s message:

(message begins at 15:15)

Luke 24:1-8 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.”

 Jonah 2: Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the belly of the fish, saying,

“I called out to the Lord, out of my distress,
    and he answered me;
out of the belly of Sheol I cried,
    and you heard my voice.
For you cast me into the deep,
    into the heart of the seas,
    and the flood surrounded me;
all your waves and your billows
    passed over me.
Then I said, ‘I am driven away
    from your sight;
yet I shall again look
    upon your holy temple.’
The waters closed in over me to take my life;
    the deep surrounded me;
weeds were wrapped about my head
    at the roots of the mountains.
I went down to the land
    whose bars closed upon me forever;
yet you brought up my life from the pit,
    O Lord my God.
When my life was fainting away,
    I remembered the Lord,
and my prayer came to you,
    into your holy temple.
Those who pay regard to vain idols
    forsake their hope of steadfast love.
But I with the voice of thanksgiving
    will sacrifice to you;
what I have vowed I will pay.
    Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

10 And the Lord spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah out upon the dry land.
